Chapter 6: Never Enough

Ouch!!! This is a particularly insightful chapter this week. Entitled "Never Enough", Linda Dillow address a topic that is to me a painful one because it hits me (and most women) where it hurts-in the area of our rampant materialism. What was interesting to me is that she used examples from all parts of the spectrum...Carmen from Romania who had practically nothing, and was determined to have more and more, to John D. Rockefeller who seemed to have everything, but still thought he didn't have enough.

Linda looks at three barriers in our lives that keep us from experiencing contentment: Greed, Lack of Purpose, and Anxiety. She quotes Henry Kissinger, who stated: "To Americans, usually tragedy is wanting something very badly and not getting it." As I said, "Ouch!" I would tell you to enjoy this chapter, but my guess is that you won't like it very much. And that's probably a very good thing, because it means that you are sensitive to the Holy Spirit and what He is trying to teach you. Now, may we not only hear what God has to tell us, but determine and trust that He will enable us to overcome!
